24 Hours of Radio

An art project from someone who doesn't really have anything say but is trying to fill 24 hours.

Current status: As of the 28th November, I've still not fixed the volume normalisation between tracks. So, be warned, I guess. If you're upset you've missed The Writer's Apprentice, worry not and bit a touch more patient. The radio station can now run series on a loop. It will roll back around to episode one once the series has finished.

What's going on here?

The Internet is slowly being filled with AI slop. Why should Big AI have all the fun? Shane's on a mission to over-produce underproduced content - a whole day of the stuff.

I'm calling this an art project because I'm not entirely sure there's any purpose in it, other than Making Stuff For the Sake of Making Stuff, and when that intersects with it being enjoyed (even if only by the creator) then we call it ART.

My hope is to fill a full day with audio content, much like a radio station on the old radio bands. This might take some time. In the meanwhile, thank you for paying as much attention as you already have.

Reasonable questions

Does the programming change each day? Yes and no. I want to fill the station with content, but it doesn't have to be fresh content. There will be some programs that are repeated at the same time every day. Some programs might be released every once in a while, and the latest episode will be the thing that is looped. There's some fixed-length series I've done, like my Writers' Apprentice series, which might play episode 1 on one day, and episode 2 at the same time on the next.

What's the technical set up? You can listen to The Stack to hear about how the tech behind the radio is coming together. I've built a bit of Ruby on Rails around LiquidSoap, which is broadcasting to an Icecast server, and then to this browser.

What is played in gaps you haven't filled yet? If you tune in when there's no scheduled programming, you'll hear Bach's Brandenburg Concerto in F major. It's just the first two movements, but I think it's a pretty banger track.
